NEWS 2008 PRESIDENT'S CUP CHAMPIONS EFC went on the face Edmond Soccer Club White in the semi’s where they posted a 2-0 win. With the win, the boys moved on the finals to face Tulsa Nationals. The boys were looking to avenge an earlier season draw with Nationals, but the game was played just as tight the second time around. EFC struck first with a goal in the first half with a good shot after many attempts were turned away by the Nationals keeper. Nationals knotted things up with goal midway through the second half on a defensive breakdown by EFC. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie. Two, ten minute overtimes were scheduled and penalty kicks to follow if a winner was not determined. EFC scored the game winner with 3.5 minutes left in the second over time to secure the title. With this title, boys have earned their place in the USYS Region III President’s Cup Regional Tournament in Columbus, GA. 95 BOYS REACH THE FINALS OF Norman Celtic Black awaited EFC in the next round. After a 0-0 first half, EFC struck first on a very impressive full volley goal off of the cross bar from a set play. Celtic Black tied things up at 1 apiece with about 8 minutes left in regulation. EFC put the game away with another great set play goal with only minutes left to play. In the finals, the #1 ranked team from KS was looking for EFC. Wichita Airstrike had rolled through their bracket and opening round games with impressive victories. EFC played to a 1-1 tie through the first half and was looking strong. However, Airstrike placed a great shot past the EFC keeper midway through the second half and went up 2-1. Unfortunately, Airstrike put another 2 goals together very late in the match and EFC dropped the match 4-1. Throughout more than 100 degree heat for the weekend, EFC battled and brought home the Silver medal. Great job boys! ___________________________________________________________________ EFC 95 BOYS ADVANCE TO SEMIS OF OKLAHOMA PRESIDENT'S CUP Rains moved in and postponed the tournament by one day. EFC 95 started out the rain delay on short notice. EFC was given a valiant challenge by Thunder Brazil 95. EFC was able to stay alive with a 3-3 draw. Many golden opportunities for the EFC 95 boys were turned away by the keeping performance of the Thunder 95 boys squad. Finally, the last game of the day was played against the always tough Blitz United 95 Red team. After a nearly stalemate first half, EFC scored the only goal of the half on a dramatic breakaway with only seconds remaining. EFC then went up 3-1 midway through the second half before giving up a late goal on a set play. Both teams struggled to get much going offensively and the game ended with a 3-2 win for EFC. The EFC boys advance to OKC as the #1 seed from the Tulsa bracket and await their next opponent. Congratulations boys on a great weekend! EFC finishes 3-0-1 with a goal differential of 15-8 to the good. __________________________________________________________ WSA CUP RESULTS The EFC 95 Boys added several more to the win column by sweeping their bracket and advancing into the final match with Blitz 95 Navy. The 95s fought hard coming back to tie the game 1-1 and battled through double overtime before falling to Blitz in a Penalty Kick Shootout. Although they were disappointed in the 2nd place finish, these boys continue to make HUGE strides every week - a drastic improvement over their winless Fall season. Their accomplishments include: The Hurricane Cup Silver Division Championship and being undefeated in U11 Boys League A. Congrats! ___________________________________________________________ 2006 HURRICANE CUP CHAMPIONS In the midst of freezing temperatures and 30 mph winds, the '95s final match went into overtime with a score of 1-1 at the end of regulation. 2 minutes into Golden Goals the '95s scored the tie-breaking goal - securing the 2-1 win and the Championship.
