97s WIN PLANO INVITATIONAL

Sat morning EFC97 kicked off the tournament with a 4 – 0 win over the Tx Sting. Saturday afternoon after a heart breaking hard fought and physically punishing game that ended in a 0–1 loss to the North Texas Strikers, EFC97 found themselves needing a win Sunday morning if they wanted a chance to extend their stay. Sunday morning EFC97 got themselves into a hole going down 0-1 in the first half against the Tx Spirit. Not giving up the girls raised the level of play in the second half, finding the net twice securing a win (2-1) and a wildcard spot in the quarter finals.

The quarter finals found 4 teams from Oklahoma, EFC97 Blue, Blitz Navy (OPL), Canadian Valley (OPL) and TSC Black. EFC97 drew TSC Black as their
opponent. This was the 4th meeting between them from the start of spring 2010 to now, they tied 1-1 at the start of spring 2010, they met in the Presidents Cup Finals, which saw EFC97 come out with 2-1 win, they met in pool play for the Presidents Cup Regional’s, which saw TSC97 take one back 0-1.

TSC would open the scoring very early on with a quick goal, EFC leveled things midway through the first half.  From there both teams had chances and both keepers kept their teams alive. Regulation couldn’t decide it and neither could 2 overtime periods. This one had to be settled from the penalty spot. The EFC97 keeper  came up big with 3 spot kick denials and EFC97 prevailed 3-1 in the kicks giving them the 2-1 victory.

The semifinal saw a matchup of 2 teams that hadn’t seen each other in a while, Blitz prevailed in their qtr final game and now had to head into a early Monday morning showdown against the confident EFC97 squad. Once again the opponents would open the scoring up first, with a goal midway through the first half. The EFC squad had work to do in the second half, and was determined to take care of business. Mid-way through the second, they would equalize things. Just when the sidelines started to settle on the fact that we might be headed to the 2nd straight over time game EFC97 settled things by scoring the game winner with about 5 min left in regulation.

The Finals was an all Oklahoma affair, Canadian Valley had made it through their bracket, qtr finals and semifinals only giving up 2 goals, and that was in their 3-2 semifinal win. EFC had just completed the last 3 games by going down 0-1, and battling back to 2-1 wins. Bound and determined to maintain its new identity as comeback kids EFC97 conceded the first goal midway through the first half from a free kick that was aided by the wind. The second half saw both teams see-saw back and forth and finally with close to 10 minutes left EFC97 found its mark hitting the back of the net leveling the score at 1’s where it stood at the end of regulation. In the 1st over time period things stayed the same as it started 1-1, EFC denied the wind aided  attacks and pressure. With the first ot period over and change of field directions, EFC97 looked confident and put pressure on the CV goal immediately, and very quickly found the sweet spot and took the lead 2-1. EFC97 was able to hold its lead through the remaining 7 minutes and claim the title of comeback kids (4 straight 0-1 turned into 2-1)and Plano Labor Day Invitational Champions

EXTREME 97 GIRLS BRING HOME OKLAHOMA PRESIDENTS CUP

The EFC 97 girls blue team took on a very skilled and determined TSC 97 Black team in the 2010 Mazzio’s Oklahoma Presidents Cup and came away with a 1-0 win.  This was a very heated game with many chances on goal for both teams.  These two teams have ended with ties in their last two meetings so the win was especially gratifying for the girls.  The girls were undefeated in pool play scoring a total of 9 goals while giving up 2 against OFC 97 White, Fury 97 Black and Thunder 97 Fiji.  They end their u13 fall and spring seasons with 2 tournament championships in addition to their “A” league play record of 11 wins, 2 losses, 3 ties with 52 goals for and 8 against.  The coaches are “extremely” proud of the girls and their accomplishments this year and are looking forward to next year with this great group of girls.
