Hassan was born in Baghdad, Iraq where he started playing the game of soccer at age 6. He played on the Iraq Youth National team from 1974 to 1975 before moving to Tulsa where he started coaching and training youth soccer players in 1981. Early in his career he had the opportunity to train former MLS, US National team player and recent Oklahoma Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Joe Max Moore.

Since then Hassan has trained numbers of Oklahoma youth players through his private training and soccer camps throughout northeast Oklahoma.

In 1983 he became a US citizen (which he still refers to as one of his proudest moments to date) and an employee of American Airlines where he is currently a Crewchief.
