JOSH HATZELL
JANUARY 3, 1990 - FEBRUARY 20, 2005

RUNNER

Runner when the road is long
Feel like givin' in
But you're hangin' on
Oh runner when the race is won
You will run into His arms

Courier valiant bearing the flame
Messenger noble sent in HIs name
Faster and harder run through the night
Desperate relay carry the light

Obstacle ancient chilling the way
Enemy wakened stoking the fray
Still be determined fearless and true
Lift high the standard carry it through

Mindful of many waiting to run
Destined to finish what you've begun
Millions before you cheering you on
Godspeed dear runner carry it home

eXtreme's LASTING TRIBUTE

The #10 that we fly on our flag is in memory of EFC '90 teammate Josh Hatzell who was tragically taken from us February 20, 2005 when a soccer goal fell on him.

We honor Josh and his never ending pursuit of excellence in track, football and soccer. He made an impact on all of us on and off the field with his energetic spirit, intense work ethic and ever present smile!

EFC is honored to announce that Josh's number 10 has now been permanently incorporated into the design & artwork of our new team flags so that every new EFC team formed from this day forward will be able to join us in paying tribute to this exceptional scholar, athlete and friend.

THE TRIBUTE CONTINUES

A ground breaking ceremony on May 22, 2006 ushered in the construction of the new Josh Hatzell Memorial Arch at the Owasso Sports Complex. The arch will mark the Start/Finish line for the future Owasso High School Cross Country course slated to open in the Fall of 2006.

AN IDEA TAKES SHAPE

Columns will support a metal railing across the top with the lettering "OWASSO RAMS XC" and a 20-inch ram head in the middle. A plaque on one column will be to honor and remember Josh, accompanied by a plaque on the other side listing All-State runners. With the help of coach Jim McFadden, the cross country course which has been at Elm Creek Park the past few years, was moved to the Owasso Sports Park. Plans are to have the memorial completed by the start of cross country season this fall.

THE DESIGN

Jim Buss, Josh's uncle, designed and donated the ram head and letters that will be used on the memorial.

Joe Hatzell, Josh's dad has also played a major part in the planning and Danny Henrie will be assisting with the construction aided by several of Josh's friends.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Assisted by several teammates and friends, Danny Henrie and Josh's brother Jordan pour the foundation and set the blocks for the base of the new memorial arch.

Check back for more photos as the construction process continues and we await the final unveiling!
